Birmingham 2022 was the first Commonwealth Games for Wendell Stanley, who fought in the men's U71kg category.

In 2022 Stanley, the current U71kg New Zealand Champion, claimed his sixth North Island Golden Gloves title.

The Aucklander beat the Australian number two ranked fighter at a June 2022 invitational.
