Glasgow 2014 was the first Commonwealth Games for Michael. He placed 2nd at the 2012 Oceania Badminton Championships in the men's singles event and placed 1st in the under 23 men's double event. Michael says that his greatest moment in the sport was becoming New Zealand National Men's Singles Champion in 2013.
