Former mountain biker who turned to road racing after winning the GC titles in the New Zealand Cycle Classic and the Tour of Wellington in 2011. George secured a stagiaire role with Radioshack in 2011 which led to a full contract with the UCI World Tour team in 2012 and 2013. He moved to Cannondale in 2014 before advancing to the high-profile Dutch World Tour team, LottoNL-Jumbo (now Jumbo-Visma) where he has remained for seven years.
At 58kgs he is a noted climber, who has ridden in 14 Grand tours and six Classics. He has three professional wins to his credit including the Gran Piemonte last year, and a narrow second placing at Il Lombardia, both on the World Tour.
