Daniel's
first long course national titles came in 2015 winning both the 50m and 100m
freestyle.
At the 2015 New Zealand Short Course Championships, Daniel retained his title
in the 100m freestyle and set a New Zealand record in the process. He also won
the 50m freestyle.
Representing New Zealand for his first time at the 2015 University Games in
Gwangju, Daniel was 7th in the 100m freestyle. He won the 50m freestyle and 50m
backstroke titles at the New Zealand Open Championships in 2016, setting
records in both, but missed qualification for Rio by 4/100ths of a second in
the 50m freestyle.
In 2016 Daniel qualified for the 13th FINA World Championships (25m) in the
50m, 100m and 200m freestyle, breaking the New Zealand records in the 50m and
100m freestyle in 21.52s and 47.52s respectively at the New Zealand short
course championships. He broke his 100m freestyle short course record clocking
47.30 at the FINA ARENA World Cup in Hong Kong.
Daniel made the semi-finals in the 50m freestyle at the FINA World
Championships (25m) in Canada.
He defended his national title in the 50m freestyle and also won the 50m
butterfly at the New Zealand Open Championships in 2017.
2017 has seen Daniel compete at the FINA World Championships in Budapest and on
a the FINA World Cup circuit, competing in Beijing, Tokyo and Singapore.
Daniel is currently studying Physiotherapy at AUT University.
